My First Uber Ride in #CDMX
I am behind the times when it comes to using Uber as a mode of transportation. I kept hearing how awesome it was and I must say I have to agree. I became an Uber rider about a month ago in Austin, Texas where I reside. All of my rides have been great experiences. So when I was out of the country recently, I thought why not try it in Mexico City.I opened up my Uber app, it immediately located where I was, asked my destination and gave me an approximate arrival time for my Uber. I have to say I was nervous after all I was in Mexico City and how was my Uber driver going to find me? This city is huge! Is my location is accurate? Should I send him my picture?
I don’t know why I thought it would be different in Mexico City than Austin. Obviously the app is very good at locating where they are going to pick us up and who we are. As promised my Uber driver arrived 10 minutes later, he was dressed in a very nice suit, offered me a bottle of water asked what kind of music I wanted to hear and verified my destination. If you haven’t been to Mexico City traffic is well like any other big city in the U.S. I just sat back enjoyed the scenery and caught up on emails all while jamming to some really great music.
Once we arrived at my destination, he was concerned where I was going and made sure I called my appointment to verify the address. My appointment was at an office that didn’t have a sign outside but just a big red garage door. The driver waited while I verified the location of my appointment and the big red door was opened by a security officer Abraham wished me well and happy travels. Wallah! I am one happy Uber rider.
Here are a few tips that I would say apply to Mexico City, do not use ride share in Mexico City, request your regular Uber ride. Plan enough time to get to your destination as traffic is heavy in Mexico City especially if there is a holiday and usually on Friday’s. I activated my cell phone for international use for Mexico City specifically. Now most providers offer at least one gig of usage while in Mexico so utilizing the app was very easy.
I am officially an Uber “cheerleader”!
Cheers,
Chica
