Who is Chica About Town? I am a Latina!
There are times when I am asked where are you from? Your English doesn’t have a Spanish accent and your Spanish sounds a little like you are from Mexico City. I will start off at the beginning, and those of you who know me… well you know I never tell a short story.
Born in New York, my father is Puerto Rican, and my mother from Monterrey, Mexico. I didn’t grow up in New York, I grew up in Texas. I started traveling at a very young age; my mother would send me to visit our family in Monterrey, Mexico. I would go on family vacations with my cousins via car to San Miguel de Allende, Guadalajara, San Luis Potosi, Puebla, all the beautiful cities in Mexico. My grandfather was a train engineer and my grandmother and I would ride the train to Mexico City. I learned to read and write Spanish in Mexico, my grandmother bought me a comic book and I taught myself to read Spanish. Those adventures with my family have been some of the happiest moments of my life. I lived in Mexico City in the 90’s which solidified my roots in the Latin culture.
So in lieu of saying I was born in New York, I like to say I am a Latina. I love the Latin culture but also love my American culture. I am a fusion of three cultures, Puerto Rican, Mexican and American; I am a Latina; I love long walks on the beach, travel, I am a foodie, I love the arts, music, books, and movies. At the risk of this blog sounding like a dating profile I will leave you with this:
I am Chica About Town and I am a Latina embracing life with love and positivity!
Won’t you join me on my journey?
Cheers,
Chica
